01 — Overview
A closer look
Vehicle armoring turns a vehicle, as it leaves the production line, into a protected platform, and every project starts with the vehicle itself. Opaque areas use a hybrid of steel and composite: steel brings structural strength and surface hardness, while composite layers cut the weight for the same protection. Transparent areas use multi-layer ballistic glass. Chassis, door and roof panels and the fuel tank are treated according to the vehicle’s weak points. Every added kilo affects suspension, brakes and handling, so armor is calculated together with the vehicle’s payload.
The protection level is set per project. Civilian and VIP vehicles are armored across B4–B7 and VR7–VR9; these scales belong to different standards and do not convert one-to-one. For tactical and armored vehicles, NATO STANAG 4569 level 2–4 composite packages are available: the VAS-K LIGHT applique panel, the IED- and AP-protected VAS-K MEDIUM module and the VAS-K HEAVY modular plate for heavy vehicles. Across this span, the kinetic test threat runs from 7.62×39 API BZ to 14.5×114 B32 API. Blast-protection packages are defined per project.
