02/03Platform armoring
Protection under salt, humidity and a strict weight budget. Light UHMWPE composite panels for patrol boats, fast attack craft and special-mission ships.
01 — Overview
At sea, every kilo counts. Weight carried high affects stability, and total weight affects speed and fuel burn, so heavy armor quickly reaches its limits on small craft. KG naval armoring is built on light UHMWPE composite plates: polyethylene is lighter than water, does not rust like metal and resists marine corrosion. The humidity and salt load of the marine environment are built into the design from the start, down to fasteners and mounting details.
Armoring focuses on the most critical zones of the vessel: the bridge, the deck and the critical equipment needed to keep the mission going. On the bridge, opaque panels work alongside ballistic glazing, protecting the crew while keeping the view clear for navigation. Panels mount modularly and can be removed and refitted for maintenance, replacement or a change of mission. Lightness also lets the same weight budget protect a larger area. The protection level is set per project with reference to STANAG 4569 levels; the NAVALARMOR M-3 naval platform panel is defined at level 3.
