Blast Blanket

When a suspect package is found, the first goal is to limit the effect of a possible detonation. A blast blanket is a ballistic cover designed for exactly that. The containment ring goes around the device first, and the blanket is laid over it. The aim is to hold fragments that would fly out horizontally within the layers, dampen part of the blast energy and vent the remaining pressure upward, away from people. Ring and blanket form a two-part system: one surrounds the spread, the other covers the top.

The blanket is not a disposal tool but a tool for time and distance: while the EOD team prepares to respond with a robot or a full protective suit, it adds an extra layer of precaution for the people nearby. Effective use depends on correct placement, so teams should be trained for it. The blanket is one link in a chain made of the EOD team’s robot, suit and procedures; it does not replace that chain. The device sizes and threat limits it can be used with are stated in the product data sheet; beyond those limits, stand-off distance always comes first.
