01 — Overview
A closer look
The weakest point of a protected room is often its door: even when the walls are armored, protection ends there if the leaf, frame, hinges and lock area are not at the same level. The KG ballistic door combines steel and composite layers. Steel gives the leaf structural strength, while the composite layers spread bullet energy and help reach the same ballistic level at a lower weight. A lighter leaf also eases the load on the hinges and the strain of daily use.
In Europe, ballistic doors are assessed under EN 1522 and EN 1523: EN 1522 sets the classification and requirements, EN 1523 the test method. A door is more than its leaf; frame, threshold, hinges, lock and any vision panel must be designed to the same level. In a vault, a VIP office or a critical-facility entrance, the door is engineered together with the architecture and how often it is used. On a busy entrance, door weight and closing speed shape the workflow as much as security. Protection class and dimensions are set per project.
