A closer look
A ballistic vest is built on two layers. Inside, an aramid soft panel provides NIJ IIIA protection against handgun threats: the woven plies meet the bullet and dissipate its energy by spreading it between the fibers. Against rifle threats a soft panel is not enough on its own, so SAPI-cut hard plates go into the carrier’s plate pockets. The same vest can therefore run as a light IIIA configuration on patrol and as a plated configuration on high-risk missions.
The outer carrier is sewn from 1000D fabric, and its MOLLE webbing takes magazine pouches, radio and medical kit wherever the mission needs them. Add-on side, shoulder and groin protection integrates with the system. Length adjustment fits the vest to different builds and equipment, and a quick-release system lets the wearer get out of it without losing time in an emergency. Vest weight is not published, because it depends on the chosen panels, plates and modules.
